The Legends 20th Anniversary Reunion
So, it was about 3 weeks before the reunion and I had arranged to meet Darren Noguerol for tickets. So, we both trek down to Grappenhall to meet up with the man himself. Over a couple of beers and a chat, during which time Tonka had turned up. I by the way was just sat there listening in, because these fellas were reminiscing over how good the Legends experience actually was and we were all getting pretty psyched. So all we had to do now was wait for the night.
Right, so there's 4 of us in this taxi going to The View - me Andy, Bill and Phil , when we pull through the gate way, we can see the crowd already forming; excited clubbers waiting to get in. Taxi pulls up, we all pile out and I can feel the adrenaline starting to flow. As we approach the main entrance we can all hear the sound from inside the building.
..3 weeks earlier we had been told by Darren that the sound system was being provided by Funktion One. Mark, after looking on the net, kindly informed me that this is the nut's when it comes to sound..
After a brief question and answer session with the doorman, for Andy's sake, "Why's the place called The View?" "Look out back" being the answer, we got our wristbands and away we went..
Walking through the main door, IT hit's me, for weeks this idea had been building in my head and it didn't disappoint. So after a brief visit to the bar (..first of many..) our group bobbed out back where Andy found out why it's called The View, the sound was still crystal. All the makings of a top night.. Good tunes, good friends, good views.
We re-enter the main room and its bouncing to the point that you can't help but join in, and it kicks off properly.. Suddenly to stop, and out of the blue, Shaun Mellor comes up on stage to make an announcement, regarding the night and it being the last time for The Legends experience, kindly reminding us that we've all contributed nicely towards Warrington's St Rocco's Hospice.
The music kicks in, and we begin.. Before too long the heat starts to build, the sweat starts to pour and the drinks (along with other things) start to flow. Time suddenly starts to disappear but the music just keeps getting better and better. Now I understood the old man's (Mark) rant's about this feeling of being involved in something bigger and why Legends actually did matter to so many people, even though it was 20 years ago.
3 o'clock comes around too fast, kicking out time.. But, out the of nowhere Darren keeps it going.. People still dancing and no signs of stopping. He keeps us going and does us proud. The house lights come on and its all over, quarter to four and the musics over.. the admiration and love for Darren at the end of the night was unbelievable, this guy was loved by everybody in the room, for the experience he had given to us. I am sure its one I'll carry with me for years.

A Brief History - Mark Weston
"It was 1990, I was 17 years old and still at college. I also worked as a glass collector at TJ Appleton's in Warrington. The music I listened to was Van Halen, Dave Lee Roth, Guns N' Roses and White Snake. I was donning the perfect mullet for the style of music I listened to and had the clothes to boot.
I was working one Friday night at TJ's and I happened to see Darren Noguerol, he had told me he just got the spot at Legends, saying that Richard Garvin had gone back to London University to continue his studies. So, Mike Woods ask him to fill his spot. he said "You should come down and check it out". As you can see from my references house music really wasn't my thing, plus I didn't really know anything about it as it was so underground.
Two weeks passed and some of the guys from work mentioned they were going to Legends, I knew Darren was DJing so I thought I'd go. We arrived and ventured up the infamous concrete stair case, all the way being able to hear a muted thud, entering into what can only be described as the biggest change that took place in my life! please do not underestimate the impact this club and its DJ's had on me. In the space of one visit, it total changed my perspective on music and fashion. I chopped the mullet and felt part of something bigger..
DJ's Mike Woods and Darren Noguerol, were single handedly, bringing some of the finest sounds from around the world making it a privilege to be a Warringtonian at the time.

I have spoken to Darren in the past, and this place became so popular through word of mouth, which though I didn't realise at the time, gave Legends it's underground edge. Due to the cascade effect, across from Manchester, with the Hacienda and the pill craze that was flooding the country, the people who went to Legends were some of the best people you could ever wish to meet. They came in there hundreds, crowds often reaching over a thousand, from as far away as Inverness and Brighton for the sound these guys were putting together.
Between the two DJ's, though there styles were different they complimented each other perfectly. Both being able to take over from where the last one left off. Darren would often begin the night with a Hip Hop/Balearic build up to get the crowd started, throwing some classics into the mix. Mike would then take over and slowly begin to increase the tempo. This would often lead very well into whatever Darren wanted to play for the his second set, leaving Mike with the big finish. The night would sound like thunder, with a cheeky lightening flash for effect as the guys liked the club to be quite dark, with pinpoints of light.
I attended the club on regular basis for about 2 and half years, during that time I began to DJ myself, regularly performing at TJ Appleton's and The Boulevard. These nights I attended at Legends, influenced me to attempt putting together as close a mix as I could to the Legends sound. In fact these nights have influenced me to this day."
You've had some history and we've given you an idea over what the night was like, this is my way of thanking the DJ's at the time and people that used to go, from 1990 - 1993 and the reunion in 2010.
If you went to Legends and have a story to tell, contact us here and we'll tell your story.
